Pinewood Sabres fought their way to their first-ever wins this weekend at the inaugural Bucks and Berks Women’s Recreational Monthly Tournament at Slough Powerleague.
Joining four other teams for an afternoon of fast-paced five-a-side football, the Sabres faced an utterly dominant Maidenhead side before bouncing back with impressive victories over Palmer Park and Chalfont.

As with any five-a-side tournament played inside a cage, the pace was relentless from the opening whistle; but our Sabres more than rose to the challenge.

Kerry Grundy was outstanding in goal, recording clean sheets in both victories. In front of her, Hannah Norbury, Annabel Parker, Nicky Shaw and Rebecca Candlish produced a fiercely physical defensive display. Even when the opposition did manage to score, they often walked away reluctant to try their luck again too soon!

At the other end of the pitch, attacking partnerships began to flourish. The Sabres registered shots on target well into double figures—it just took a little while to find the back of the net.
Kennedy Bays, Claire Field, Chloe Morant and ShaoLi Larter never let up in attack, pressing relentlessly and creating chance after chance. When the breakthrough goals finally arrived, they were well worth the wait.
