A solid performance today against Ashridge on a very small pitch saw the Pythons cling onto the league leaders. After struggling last week to put the ball into the net despite dominating the game, it was assuring to see a quick start to the game with Daniel showing his characteristic pace and strength to burst up the right wing before delivering in a great cross to set up Will for the first goal after just 6 min. Pythons continued to control proceedings thereafter and dominated the game but against the run of play aftern 20mins Ashridge struck back, leveling at 1:1 and this is how the score line stayed until half time.
Memories of last weeks surrender against Eversley & California could have lingered in the players mind but to their immense credit, the Pythons came out for the second half with the bit between their teeth, closing down quickly, pressing hard, and giving Ashridge no time on the ball. This quickly paid off with a great through ball from Leo in the 41st minute setting Teddy up for his first goal, 2:1. Pinewood didn't stop there - With no let up in pressure just 2 minutes later Teddy turned and shot to make it 3:1. Pinewood sensed blood and kept up the pressure, not letting Ashridge back into the game and following a through ball from Sam which split the defense, Daniel slotted home in the 60th min; controversy followed as the linesman flagged offside, however after some consideration the right decision was made, Daniel on side and Zabi on the far side off side but no where near the play - goal stands and its 4:1. Ashridge heads dropped and Jackson found his scoring touch again, returning to his familiar deadly self by scoring in the 62nd and 69th min to make the final score 6:1 to Pinewood.
A great game today, only one team in it really, back to winning ways in style! Player of the Match went to Teddy Green, moving into an unfamiliar role but settling really well and scoring twice. Well done Teddy!
