An excellent and thrilling match for the first game of the season.

Pinewood was on it from the first whistle. Harrying and chasing they put the pressure on their opponents. We welcomed some new players in Joel, Alex and Zac. You wouldn’t have been able to tell they were new though as they fitted seamlessly into the team.

After a tough opening we noticed that the opposition were weak down our left side, so we put Ruben there to exploit that with his pace. In no time at all he powerfully ran through to score after some good work from Zac and Liam.

The backline looks strong. Ryan and Joel look like they’ve played together years and had little problems dealing with the opposition strikers. Leo and Alec at fall backs were excellent – running tirelessly. The midfield was also strong – particularly Jensen down the right and Ruben down the left running at their defenders and causing unrest.

1-0 up and playing well the opposition also raised their game and scored a good team goal attacking down our left and catching Alex out with a clever finish.

At 1-1 we really raised our game. Ruben scored again to make it 2-1 and then Luke scored with a great finish lifting the ball over the keeper into an unguarded net from the edge of the area.

Doug and Luke upfront were working well and Doug was very unlucky not to score after outpacing the defender and just clipping past the post.
Half time and we were feeling confident at 3-1.
The second half was more challenging, and Shinfield pushed very hard. The midfield worked hard.

Orlando, Jenson, Liam and Zac battled hard to control the middle of the park as we were pushed back.

Another excellent run and goal from Ruben completed his hattrick and made the score 4-1.

A mix up led to a goal, and it was 4-2.

Shinfield then really pushed until the end of the game. They scored a goal to make it 4-3 and despite a lot of corners at the end of the game, Piranhas held on!!
