This weekend saw the visit of the in-form Ashridge FC. Both teams had a perfect start with 2 wins, so it was an early top-of-the-table clash at Harmans Water. After all parents ensured respectful parking, it was into the action.
The Predators started well and had the greater possession but went behind against the run of play. A slight oversight by the coach meant that I had to return to the car to collect my glasses, meaning that I missed the strike, but apparently, it’s still counts!
0-1 became 0-2 shortly afterwards, when the Ashridge winger curled a great strike over the head of our stand-in keeper, Gregory.
So 2-down at half-time was an unusual place for ours boys to be, but they showed once again that team spirit and effort can get you a long way!
A strong start to the second half saw Edward win a third penalty in as many weeks and the resulting kick halved the deficit. And better still, aa only two minutes later Edward grabbed his second, finishing after a great one-two with Maxwell.
A battling performance then ensued with the likes of Barney, Gregory and Ollie doing the dirty work in the midfield, breaking up the play. We were rewarded with an Edward hat-trick with a great half-volley but within a minute Ashridge were back level again.
Heroics from 2nd half stand-in keeper Remi then bore fruit as with literally the last kick of the game, Nathan beautifully converted a Noah assist, over the helpless Ashridge keeper.
Another example of hard work getting results. These boys don’t know when they are beaten!!
