FIVE UNBEATEN. THE PACK SENDS A MESSAGE.

FIVE UNBEATEN. THE PACK SENDS A MESSAGE.

Mat Parker

“To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

That quote from Tennyson says everything about this performance without needing to mention the result.

But that wouldn’t make for a great match report would it?!

There are results that tell a story. And then there are performances that make a statement.

This morning, the Pinewood U13 She-Wolves faced a Slough side that had gone unbeaten all season, regularly dismantling opposition and recording emphatic victories, including recent 9–0 scorelines.

In fact, Slough hadn't played a single match all season in which they'd scored fewer than three goals.

Until today.

But the She-Wolves weren't interested in reputations, records or form books.

From the opening whistle, Pinewood took control. Dominant in possession, relentless in the challenge and first to almost every ball, the pack imposed themselves physically and psychologically on an opposition more accustomed to dictating proceedings.

Slough were dangerous, of course. A side of that calibre doesn't need a second invitation, and a handful of uncharacteristic Pinewood mistakes were punished ruthlessly. But where previous opponents had struggled to contain them, the Wolves refused to be intimidated.

And when Pinewood struck, they did so in style.

Cali M, having been comprehensively wiped out inside the penalty area, stepped up to dispatch an absolute thunderbolt of a penalty. No hesitation. No nerves. Just conviction.

Then came Evie.

Every so often, grassroots football produces a moment that reminds you why you stand on a cold, wet and often unforgiving touchline every Saturday morning. Evie's goal was one of those moments. A truly extraordinary finish that will deservedly go down as one of the finest goals we've seen in a Pinewood shirt.

The closing stages were fiercely contested, but the Wolves never surrendered their composure or their belief.

There was disappointment at the final whistle when Slough chose to leave the field rather than join the customary applause. But perhaps the most telling measure of this team's development was their response. No retaliation, no theatrics.

Just dignity, togetherness and respect.

Leadership isn't simply about how you play. It's about how you carry yourself.

And nobody embodied that better today than Steve.

In her final match wearing the captain's armband, Neve delivered a performance of remarkable consistency, technical quality and composure. Controlled, intelligent and, frankly, operating on another level, she was everything a captain should aspire to be.

A thoroughly deserved Player of the Match.

She now hands the armband to Darcey, who will lead the pack for the next six fixtures.

Five matches. Unbeaten.

Against an opposition that has spent the season overwhelming everyone in its path, Pinewood showed just how far this pack has come.

The message has been sent!
