After a long summer break, the Pinewood She-Wolves returned to action against Reeves Rangers Dolphins.

The opening half saw a hesitant Wolves pack struggle to rediscover its rhythm. Reeves took advantage, scoring an unfortunate goal after a series of errors that began with an opposition goal kick.

Despite the difficult start, Tilly Byrd produced an outstanding performance at left-back. Composed, committed and defensively strong, she was one of Pinewood’s brightest players throughout the first half.

The She-Wolves were also left frustrated by a potentially match-defining refereeing decision. A rallying drive was cut short when a Reeves Rangers handball stopped the attack. The referee incorrectly ruled that the resulting free kick was indirect, denying Cali Mansell a clear opportunity to level the score in what was certainly a match defining error by the official and one that soured the mood.

Following a stern half-time team talk from Coach Mitch, the Wolves emerged transformed. They rallied as a pack, took control of the game and produced a dominant second-half display filled with determination, energy and attacking intent.

Despite several heroic moments and repeated attacks on the Reeves goal, the She-Wolves could not find the equaliser before the final whistle.

Player of the Match went to Harriet Grundy, whose formidable and relentless performance in defensive midfield combined excellent footwork, athleticism and an unwavering determination to compete for every ball.

A frustrating result—but a hugely encouraging second half and plenty for the She-Wolves to build upon as the new season gets underway.
